Kakashi had always thought he'd be used to long missions away from Konoha. It gave him some quiet time, away from everyone, to reflect on his past and things he could do for his future.

But, this time around, he has someone waiting for him at home. Someone he's happy to call his significant other, despite them only doing so in private. Kakashi's still happy all the same, regardless.

It has been a long three and a half months and while the mission was successful, he just wanted to go home and embrace the woman he grew to love even more while being away.

"Anko..." he breathed and decided to pick up the pace to make it home by morning. A faint smile formed under his mask as he jumped from branch to branch. Hopefully, she'd be happy to see him too.

As the sun light broke over the horizon, Kakashi crossed the gate into Konoha. He skid to a stop, faint dust picking up behind him, and took a moment to catch his breath. The silver-haired Jonin glanced over to his left and saw the guardsmen. Nodding his head in hello, Kakashi took in one last breath and calmly walked the rest of the distance to see her... to see Anko Mitarashi.

While they both haven't been sending each other messages via hawk, snake, or hound, Kakashi knew that Anko was fine... right? At least, he hoped. Truth be told, not hearing anything for those three and half months made him a bit nervous. Things were fine between them. They had to be.

Soon enough, he saw her apartment coming up and jumped the rest of the distance to her door step. Since it was so early, he opted to using the key she gave him and slipped in quietly. Once entered, he took off his sandals, backpack, and discarded his flak jacket. Kakashi decided to say good morning to her before he decided to take a shower (thankfully he has some toiletries at her place) and removed his headband. Blinking to restore some sense of vision in his Sharingan eye, he sighed then made a beeline to Anko's room.

He cracked the door open and smiled at the sight of her. His eyes travelled along her body and came to rest on... "Huh?" he whispered and tiptoed to see her closer.

The blankets were resting at her hips and left a soft mound exposed on her abdomen. Had she put on some weight? he thought to himself. No where else seemed so… plump. Her face was still slender as were her arms and thighs.

But her belly? He shook his head. Even if she did put on some weight, he loved her all the same! Kakashi’s gaze traveled back up to her sleepy features and he smiled once again. He leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek.

This caused her to stir. An eye opened up blearily and suddenly both eyes shot open when she realized who was in her room. “‘Kashi?” she mumbled tiredly. “You’re home already?” Anko stretched and carefully contorted herself to sit up. She pulled the blanket up and ended up not bringing up her belly. “I thought you weren’t coming home til the end of the week?”

Kakashi shrugged and stretched as well. “Mission ended up ending earlier. So I made a beeline here.”

She smirked. “I can tell, go shower.”

He laughed and lowered his mask, then he felt the need to get serious. “Are you okay?” Kakashi asked gaze going towards her abdomen.

Anko blushed and looked away. “Yeah… I am. I’m perfectly healthy still,” she mumbled. “I’m just pregnant.”

“Ah.” Kakashi stood to head to the bathroom then stopped in his tracks. The Jonin immediately turned around, eyes wide as saucers. “Wait, pregnant?!”

“Yeah? I mean, we did do it right before you left on your mission.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Anko shuffled a bit uncomfortably. “Because I didn’t want to distract you from the mission..?” She felt like she was getting scolded and she groaned. “Plus I didn’t feel this would have been appropriate to, ya know, just send through hawk or dog mail.”

“Pregnant,” Kakashi trailed off and padded over to Anko once again. He looked to her for permission and once he received a nod from her, he lowered the blanket and placed a hand on her belly. “Woah.”

“Our baby is growing in there.” Anko looked to Kakashi to try and gauge his reaction. “Just letting you know, you’re not leaving me, ever. This is your kid too, and you’re stuck with the both of us.”

His gaze went to Anko’s chocolate brown irises. “I would never plan on it. You’re both stuck with me too.”

Tsumiki - One of Anko’s summons, juvenile Xenopeltis (Sunbeam snake), about 2’ long, cannot speak in a human language yet, nonvenomous, will be most suited to infiltration and observation, Sunbeam snakes are adverse to handling and must be cared for with caution

Yamanaka Ineko, 50s (OC) - 6’3”; mid-length dark blonde hair; dark grey eyes - owns a grocery in the central markets where Uoshin gets most of their food; mother to three children

Chapter 4:

Daisuke - One of Anko’s summons, Burmese python, 20ft long, nonvenomous, can speak in human language, but prefers not to, loves to curl up in sunspots, will rid pantries of mice and rats if given the chance

Locations:

Uoshin - a small restaurant/izakaya, owned by Akimichi Aijirou. Can seat about 50 people between tables and the bar; there are also three private dining rooms to the back of the establishment, but are almost always used specifically for ninja instead of civilians, and only upon request. The building is traditional, with a combination of plaster and screened walls, and has several exit points that make it popular with non-civilian customers. 

Arata Apartment - Located in the East District, third floor apartment in a converted inn owned and run by Urameshi-san, small kitchen with wood panel flooring, small living/family room and small bedroom with tatami flooring, one medium sized closet for storage, sliding glass door leads to a balcony

Ineko’s Shop - located in the central markets, has fresh produce from the Yamanaka farms south of the village, imports other produce, fruits, spices, etc from all over the Elemental Nations

I searched on the internet and found A LOT of dango-related titles for Anko-centric fics. Or just things related to dango and Anko. None with this specific name though.

Found this hilarious chapter for some (I think?) alternate Team 7 fic called "Naruto: The Heart of the Storm." Admittedly I haven't read the whole thing, but...

Behold:

"You want us to what!?" Naruto screamed. Yes, screamed. Our blond haired, sword wielding demon containing hero screamed. They'd run into Anko on their way home yesterday, and although it had been great (Naruto and Anko were very similar) they had seen what had happened when you got between Anko and her dango.

The poor civilian didn't even mean to do it. He'd tripped, and was now in intensive care and intensely scared of round foods (and the evil women eating them).

Special Jonin Anko Mitarashi was devouring dango at a speed that scared all those around her. She inhaled it even faster than Naruto ate ramen, and that was fast!

Hinata casually strode up behind her and tapped her shoulder. When Anko paused and turned around she spoke. "Blame Kakashi." And ran off, leaving Anko alone in the stand, blinking in confusion.

Then she turned around.

Her dango was gone.

I think it’s criminal that there aren’t any Anko shipping fics called Dango Over Flowers.

So I kind of like Kakanko

Since Naruto in a way became Kakashi's "light/hope" in life you could say. I could see Anko with him since she has similar personality to young Uzumaki. Almost being female!Naruto really xP (not Boruto version tho). 

And since both of them experienced being betrayed and left alone by people they looked up to (White Fang, Orochi), they could understand each other better then anyone else in village.

I always also found that there is a lot of potential for intriguing chemistry between those two. Calm and wild but both witty and trollish enough and a lot of unexplored story. And it’s good reflected in fics that I will recommend here. Now mind you, it’s not just ships fics. If you just enjoy their characters alone, you will also find something here.

This is not really KakaAnko ship fic. It’s Anko-centric story. Plot is dark so watch out but interesting and quite realistic. It dwells on what happend to Anko after Orochimaru’s betrayal. If you like just Anko alone as character you might still like it.

Now original story ends in the worst imaginable place! But good news! Other writer (Jaded_nobody) picked up story and is now writing ending for it. Please send support for this person if you enjoy it. Comments and positive reinforcement is one of the best motivations for writer to keep writing the story!

Now THIS is a gem of Kakanko ship. This fic lay fondation for my interpretation of Kakashi and Anko relationship. Writer really has great take on them. Their interactions are reallty entraining and they nicely bounce off each other while slowly developing believable bond. This fic was the reason why I started to like this ship, with Anko being little playfull sassy boss-bitch that she is and Kakashi’s sarcastic deadpan wit. It's still being updating but updates are slow. So again, comment as much good things you can for writer’s motivation.

Overall all author fics with this ship are a ton of fun. So check other works of her.

The way author write it, is quite ambiguous and leaves many "fill in the blanks" stuff.

Now this in not really Kakanko fic, it has only teases of the ship. But it’s good Anko story, it’s sells the idea of sensei Anko and her struggle of being a teacher. In that, Naruto was Anko's apprentice (his unusual graduation meant the teams were already decided etc) and there is a point where she realizes that she is teaching Naruto the same way Orochimaru taught her. Anko was very much invested in proving that she wasn't a monster because of Orochimaru in that fic which is notable given that some characters (like Kurenai?!) straight up hated her for it.

After a long day of work in the lab, there was only one thing that would provide Anko with the energy required to continue about her day. Well, two, but Genma had plans with Raido today so sex was out of the question for the time being.

Which left her with dango as the treat of choice. Five sticks were enough to get her by, but there was a tiny problem. Well, actually it was a rather large problem.

“Come on,” tilting her body a little left, she glared down the line-up. There were at least twenty people in front of her still, which meant another ten minutes minimum before she got her hands on some delicious dango. “I should have left the lab earlier.”

Perhaps she would have avoided this whole mess if she had just called it quits a bit sooner, but her current research was too interesting to just forget about because she was a little hungry.

“Curse my love for poisonous snakes,” she grumbled, shuffling forward when the line began to move. It didn’t get very far before stopping once more, but she was happy that there was at least some movement. “Why couldn’t I be born loving something boring like training?” At least then she would be less inclined to work late and would get to the dango shop when there was no line-up.

Feeling a spike of chakra directly behind her, she sighed. The only time she really felt other people’s chakra was when they focused it in a way that made it easy to feel, unlike poisons, chakra sensing wasn’t something she was very good at, and there was only one person who did that with her.

“You’re hovering,” leaning her head back, she scowled up at Gemma and his handsome face. “I thought you were hanging out with Raido?”

“I am,” Genma pointed towards the street. Following his signal, she glanced in the direction he directed and smiled when she saw Raido standing there patiently waiting for Genma’s return. “I just happened to see a pretty lady who looked like she was suffering.”

Suffering was the appropriate description of her current feelings.

“I’ll be happy once I get my hands on some dango,” it might take forever to get to the front of the line, but the prize waiting for her at the end was well worth the wait. “Go have your fun. I’ll be fine here in this endless line, wasting my life away.”

It sounded rather pathetic when she said it like that.

“If you insist.” draping his arms over her shoulders, he pulled her back against his body and leaned down to press a kiss against her nose.

She couldn’t help but scrunch her nose up when she felt his lips touch it. “Gross.”

“Love you too,” releasing his hold on her, he took a step back. “Try not to kill anyone for quick access to dango.”

“Oh,” her ears perked up. “Maybe if I-”

“Anko…”

“Just a little poison,” the people directly in front of her shuffled away, their eyes watching her carefully. “No one in this village is any fun.”

Giving his head a shake, Genma turned his back to her. “No poisoning anyone,” he clarified as he made his way back towards Raido. “Be Good!”

She snickered when she heard those last two words. If there was anything Genma knew without a doubt, it was that Anko was never ‘good’. Good was boring, and Anko wanted dango now.

He couldn’t really blame her for what she did next.

After all, how was she supposed to know that summoning a six-foot-long snake was going to send everyone in the line running?

It wasn’t her fault no one appreciated how cuddly snakes were.
